Now, to the business of today. A third nice rainless day dawned and we were up and out by 7:30, off to breakfast at a cute coffee shop across the street. The cars were parked along the motel sleeping nicely when we woke some of them up about 9 to head off to the Bobsled track at Mr. Van Hoevenberg.
Here's Bruce and Betty Dawn, Sally and Gary Kneisley ready to watch the run.
We gave Flat Bill and Ellen a taste of the adventure.
This is the Bob track of the 1932 an 1980 Olympics and for a fee three of our intrepid (does that mean fearless) troupe bought their tickets and bravely stepped into the van to take them to the 1/2 mile point on the track.
Wheee, we watched incredulously as they came around the final turn. Reg Hahn, Pat and Judy Buckley on board.
After the run they all reached in their pockets for pain relievers to help their newly sore backs and necks.
The sled is on wheels rather than runners and the track is dry, with no ice. Bumpy, rough, loud and tough on the body.
In the winter visitors can ride on the new, improved track, on ice, in a faster, smoother and more hair raising adventure.
Near the bobsled run is the Olympic ski jump. These rigs are much higher than I thought they would be. Daredevils are the skiers.
And the Olympic Sports Complex.
After the Bobsled adventure we meandered back into Lake Placid and found a couple of shop that make cold sandwiches we could take
to do the Gondola Ride up Whiteface Mountain Ski area.
The Gondola is an enclosed cabin that seats 8 with panoramic views of the mountain and the tiny people and cars below.
We shared the ride with Bill and Ellen, putting them on the window for a good view..
Once up topside we gasped at the views.
Sally K and Pat Buckley with the downhill ski slope rising further up the mountain.
Joe Topinka and Charlie Miller chatting over the picnic lunch.
Here's Sally and Gary K, Joe and Sharon T, and Judy B at the picnic.
Bruce Reynolds seems to have gotten hold of a particularly good sandwich.
Beth and Charlie Miller, Missy and Bob McKinna.
