Day 9, Thursday July 17 dawned with the remnants of the overnight rain showers as the rain system moved south and east.
More than dew, the rain droplets glistened on the luggage rack.
Reg's mascot Opossum looked more like a drenched cat.
Next to our lodging was this flying service.... seaplane flights over the great Moosehead Lake.
A hearty breakfast, then packed the cars and ready to hit the road to Bar Harbor.
Impediments to making good time are construction zones...
and large recreational vehicles.
This part of the country sees lots of heavy log haulers. Maybe that's why the roads are so rough.
But growing logs is big business here.
Interesting tractor graveyard along the way.
Pat and Judy Buckley were the fourth car in our five car caravan today... Pat took most of the photos for today's blog.
Andy and Ann Leo served as our ever vigilant caboose in his well done 4/4.
Center to the Bar Harbor region is the Acadia National Park.
But before we can enjoy the park it is time for lunch... and lobster seems like a natural here in Maine.
Lobster seems to be the regional favorite here.
Lobster (Lobstah) sandwich. Very tasty.
Of course, the full meal deal is the "by the pound Lobster".
Nourished and ready to hit the park.
Cadillac Mountain is the objective, with a six mile drive to the summit.
Phenomenal views everywhere.
We were lucky and had a day with good visibility. Most often there is fog or haze here.
The road up has several scenic viewing areas with narrow pull-off parking.
Our GPS helped us know our altitude. Considering most of the land around here is just slightly above sea level, Cadillac Mountain is quite a geographic centerpiece.
I took this photo, just as Pat Buckley took it from the other direction...
so here is the other side of the view.
And what a view.
The rest of the gang had arrived and enjoying a noggin at the motel.
On the way down from Greenville today Charlie Miller and some of the Crawlers stopped in Bangor to see Dr. Bob Bowie, his sons Cameron and Thomas and some friends. Dr. Bob has a Morgan Super Sport... one of the rare, highly collectable and historic Morgan's. Only a few were built and they are highly coveted.
Tomorrow is a free day to enjoy Bar Harbor... I wonder what it will bring.
PS: Tomorrow, Friday, our friend and fellow Pub Crawler, Art Kampschafer, who was supposed to be crawling with us this year had to cancel at the last moment due to illness. He is undergoing surgery tomorrow, and our thoughts are with him. Best wishes Art.
